India · Herbal Preparation / Cosmetic Oil Processing
स्नेह पाक (sneha pāka); taila (oil)
The classical method of cooking oil (or ghee) with a herbal paste (kalka) and a liquid medium over gentle, steady heat until set completion signs appear. The maker judges the stage by hand and senses: the paste rolled between thumb and finger forms a wick, a piece dropped in fire no longer crackles, and froth behaves in a set way. Oils for external massage are cooked to the dry "khara" stage. Documented here as a preparation technique only; no therapeutic claim is made.
